Could you write a check for $250,000?

I just finished reading a second article on a local political fundraiser with top tickets going for $250,000. Wow!

As you may know, the Village of Carol Stream and its veterans are attempting to raise $200,000 to build and rejuvenate its original 50-year-old Memorial Park to honor all veterans. This park currently honors four Carol Stream residents who have died in action.

So here is my proposal to whoever has been lucky enough to be in a position to write a check for $250,000. Please consider writing that check to the Carol Stream Park Foundation, earmarked to the Memorial. In return you will receive the following:

• A savings of $50,000, which you could pass along to another veteran's charity, all tax right offs.

• The completion of a monument which will honor veterans for the next 50 years, not just one day.

• And finally at its ribbon-cutting grand opening ceremony. I will take you out to lunch and have you meet some veterans who have earned Purple Hearts, Silver and Bronze Stars and maybe even a Medal of Honor.
