Armand Shyne to start at running back for No. 24 Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Sophomore Armand Shyne has been promoted to starting running back for No. 24 Utah .

Coach Kyle Whittingham announced the move during his press conference Monday.

Shyne rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns in the 28-23 loss to California on Saturday. He ranks No. 2 on the team with 272 rushing yards and has a team-high three rushing touchdowns.

Whittingham said Shyne is running with "a lot of violence" and has good vision. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder described himself as aggressive and quick with a strong ability to read defenses.

Shyne will be the third starting running back the Utes have had this year after leapfrogging freshman Zach Moss. Joe Williams began the year as the starter but abruptly retired after two games due to medical issues.

The Utes host Arizona on Saturday.
