Hearing on proposed SW Indiana egg farm delayed 1 month

BOONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A hearing on a proposed southwestern Indiana egg farm that's generated opposition because it could house up to 2 million hens has been delayed one month.

The Warrick County Board of Zoning Appeals was supposed to consider Prime Food Inc.'s application Monday, but postponed that until its Oct. 24 meeting.

Prime Food's attorney, Chris Wischer, tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/2dmPlvo ) the company sought the delay because it's added another parcel of land to the farm proposal, and that requires more neighbors to be notified about the project.

The proposed confined-feeding operation a few miles from the city of Boonville has generated opposition from several neighbors. They're worried about possible water contamination, odors and how it would impact the area's residential development.
