Repair plan in works for landmark Muncie Fieldhouse

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Officials are working on a proposal for repairs to the nearly 90-year-old Muncie Fieldhouse, where bleachers are expected to be closed for the high school basketball season over safety concerns.

Muncie schools Superintendent Steven Baule says he hopes to have a renovation proposal ready to present to the school board by the end of October. He tells The (Muncie) Star Press (http://tspne.ws/2cPvy8I ) that funding remains uncertain for repairs at the landmark gymnasium, which he estimates could cost several million dollars.

Inspections found settlement causing structural problems to the bleachers and some interior walls, along with needed plumbing and electrical work.

The school board has approved a fund to accept donations toward the repair work, which officials have said the district can't afford on its own.
