Scandal-hit FIFA appoints auditors, hires compliance officer

ZURICH (AP) - FIFA has appointed new auditors and hired its first dedicated compliance officer in efforts to rebuild after financial scandals.
FIFA says accountancy firm PwC will oversee its billion-dollar annual accounts, which were audited for more than a decade by KPMG.
This month, FIFA's ethics committee said it opened proceedings against former president Sepp Blatter and two other fired top officials over contracted raises and bonuses worth tens of millions of dollars.
FIFA says its first chief compliance officer is an American educated at Georgetown and Pennsylvania universities.
Edward Hanover joins FIFA from a Singapore-based pharmaceuticals firm and will start work on Oct. 1, the scandal-hit soccer body says.
