BERLIN (AP) - Anthony Modeste scored twice as Cologne defeated promoted Freiburg 3-0 at home to move provisionally top of the Bundesliga on Friday.

The French forward opened the scoring with a glancing header in off the far post from a corner in the 29th minute, two minutes before Yuya Osako squared the ball for Leonardo Bittencourt to make it 2-0. Osako capitalized on a slip from Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu to give Bittencourt a tap-in.

Modeste claimed his second before the break with a header to a long throw-in.

Freiburg forward Florian Niederlechner went close after the re-start and was denied late in the game by an outstanding save from Cologne 'keeper Timo Horn.
