Tuskegee Airmen exhibit arrives at Springfield airport
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - An exhibit about the first African-American pilots to fly combat airplanes in World War II is on display at Springfield's airport.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/2d02aP5 ) the traveling exhibit on the Tuskegee (tuhs-KEE'-gee) Airmen will be free to visitors through Saturday at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.
It includes a film about the airmen and a P-51 fighter, the same type of plane the Tuskegee Airmen flew during the war.
The Springfield & Central Illinois African American History Museum brought the exhibit to the city.
Board President Donald King says the story of the airmen is just one example of the contributions African-Americans made to the war effort.
