Honeywell in South Bend gets $18.3 million Navy contract

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Honeywell Aerospace in South Bend has been awarded an $18.3 million, three-year contract to make aircraft brakes for the Navy.

The Navy contract, announced by the U.S. Department of Defense, calls for the South Bend plant to manufacture brakes for the F/A-18, a fighter and attack aircraft. Honeywell spokesman Scott Sayres told the South Bend Tribune (http://bit.ly/2c6eInY ) on Monday that no jobs will be created because of the contract. He says it is an extension of the company's military contract for the F/A-18 aircraft.

The company has been involved in a months-long lockout impacting more than 300 workers at the plant. Negotiations on a five-year contract between the company and United Auto Workers Local 9 are scheduled to resume Wednesday.
