Libertarian presidential candidate to speak at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson will visit Purdue University next week for a speaking engagement that's free and open to the public.

The former New Mexico governor will take part in a discussion next Tuesday sponsored by the student group Purdue Young Americans for Liberty.

That group's president, Michael Thompson, says the event will give "students a chance to hear a policy message that they might not have otherwise heard."

Purdue President Mitch Daniels will lead the onstage discussion with Johnson at the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center.

The 63-year-old Johnson served two terms as New Mexico's governor as a member of the Republican party. He ran for president as a Libertarian in 2012 after withdrawing as a candidate for the GOP nomination.
