Elgin Genealogical Society to get tips on census research

The Elgin Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the second-floor Elgin Room of the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

Daniel Hubbard, a professional genealogist, will present "Developing the Sixth Census: Finding More in the Census than Meets the Eye."

Hubbard will be sharing how to squeeze as much as you can from the census data. He will discuss critical years for the census, where and when to find specific information, and some census surprises. He also will look at state censuses, early censuses and censuses taken north of the border.

The Elgin Genealogical Society evening meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at the Gail Borden Public Library. All meetings are open to the public, and they welcome everyone. For information, visit www.elginroots.com.
