Richmond fire chief named Indiana chief of the year
RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - The head of an eastern Indiana fire department is being recognized as the Indiana fire chief of the year.
Richmond Fire Chief Jerry Purcell won the award at state's Emergency Response Conference last month in Indianapolis.
Purcell has been part of the Richmond Fire Department since 1984 and was appointed chief in 2014. He was praised in his nomination for his efforts to grow the department's reach and improve existing facilities and personnel.
Purcell tells the Palladium-Item (http://pinews.co/2c0AkxQ ) that it takes a team effort to do the good his department strives toward, so he considers the award a recognition of his staff, too.
