St. Thomas to host 'Painting Nature with Watercolor'

As summer yields to fall, you can learn how to capture on canvas the changing season in "Painting Nature with Watercolor," a series of art classes taught by artist and illustrator Robert Sunyog.

Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to noon on six Saturdays, beginning Sept. 24, at the senior center in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

A member of the Nature Art League at Morton Arboretum, Sunyog has taught several classes at St. Thomas in recent years and been well-received. His teaching approach is patient, gentle and encouraging.

Sunyog's lessons will cover sketching and then painting a nature scene; perspective; depth and distance; and mood and atmosphere.

"I will share the best techniques for creating mountains, hills, trees, foliage, rocks, falls, lakes and fields," Sunyog said.

Classes, sponsored by the Celebration of the Arts ministry of St. Thomas the Apostle, will meet Sept. 24; Oct. 1, 8, 22 and 29 and Nov. 5. Because Sunyog's classes are so popular, registration for the series is recommended by Saturday, Sept. 10.

Class size will be limited to the first 12 people who register to ensure individualized instruction. Registration costs $70; registration forms and a supply list are available at the St. Thomas parish office. To have forms mailed, contact Anne Schultz at (630) 355-8980, ext. 113, or aschultz@stapostle.org.

Completed registration forms with the registration fee should be sent to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Attn. Anne Schultz, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville, IL 60563. Checks should be made out to the church, with "Art Class" listed on the memo line.
