Bartlett Heritage Days wants buskers - just show up

Buskers or street performers have been part of public entertainment for centuries. Bartlett Heritage Days wants to make local musicians and singers a part of our historical celebration.

The guidelines are simple. Just show up in downtown Bartlett anytime between the hours of 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday or Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11. Pick a quiet spot where a lot of people are walking by. The festival is on Oak and Main streets from Bartlett Park to village hall, and on Railroad Avenue and West Bartlett Avenue.

Tips for buskers:

• Avoid setting up too close to another performer or near amplification from other events.

• Do not obstruct entrances or walkways

• If you are asked to leave an area, just find another location.

• Consider putting up a sign about who you are.

• Smile and talk to people.

• Put out a decorated tip jar, hat, basket or open your instrument case.

• Acknowledge a tip with a smile and nod of the head.

• Get more attention with colorful clothes or period dress.
