Board members' pensions a disgrace
According to an article in the Daily Herald, Kane County Board members, who work a maximum of 600 hours per year, are refusing to give up their pensions, in spite of the fact that Kane County is $5 million in the red and the single move of eliminating pensions for their clearly part-time service would save taxpayers almost $200,000.
A new Illinois law will eliminate all pensions for any new county members elected this November.
Most other counties set a 1,000 hour annual requirement, about half time, for their board members to get pensions, but not Kane County. They work a minimum of 600 hours and still get benefits, a disgrace. And when polled, they unanimously voted not to give up their pensions, in spite of the fact that they only work a maximum of one-third of the time of a normal employee.
However, we as voters do have one solution - don't vote for any of these board members in the November election. Let's start fresh by getting rid of these board members, who obviously have no concern for the taxpayers of Kane County or the state of Illinois. A good way to save $200,000!
