Long Grove celebrates Labor Day with touch of the Irish
While most in northern Illinois finished their the Labor Day weekends thinking ahead to the colors of fall, Long Grove still had green on its mind.
The village wrapped up its three-day Irish Days celebration Monday with music, dance, food and drink from the Emerald Isle.
"I think the best thing about this festival is the families that come," master of ceremonies John Kopecky said. "I have seen so many familiar faces that I haven't seen in so long."
Besides lots of live Celtic-inspired music and other nods to Irish culture, highlights of the festival includes an Irish dog competition, Irish-themed storytelling, crafts, face-painting and games for kids and a "Best Looking Men's Legs in a Kilt" contest.
Nathan Chong, 7, left, of Chicago, keeps an eye on the competition during Long Grove Irish Days' Best Men's Legs in a Kilt contest Monday. Nathan won the contest, taking home a trophy.
