President, Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital

Thomas J. McAfee is a senior vice president of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, president of the North Region of Northwestern Medicine and president of Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital, a 201-bed academic community hospital in Lake Forest that serves patients throughout the northern suburbs.

As president of the North Region, McAfee is responsible for the administrative management of all Northwestern Medicine facilities located north of Chicago, including multiple outpatient facilities, immediate care centers and ambulatory clinics which are staffed with more than 1,500 employees in 10 locations.

Since joining Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital in 2006, McAfee has led the hospital through its affiliation with Northwestern Memorial HealthCare in 2010 and has established a vast network of Northwestern Medicine physicians throughout the Lake County. This included bringing the No. 1 ranked cardiology program in the state, the Northwestern Medicine Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, to Lake Forest Hospital.

McAfee also led the expansion of the Northwestern Medicine Grayslake Outpatient Center by adding a free-standing emergency department, an outpatient cancer and surgery center and a new medical building that houses the Northwestern McGaw Family Medicine Residency Program, as well as physicians from the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital.

Under McAfee's direction, the Lake Forest Hospital campus revitalization is currently under construction and will include a new hospital and outpatient center to replace the current 72 year-old facility, ensuring the hospital will continue to provide the very best health care in one of the best academic community hospitals in the county.

McAfee earned his Master of Hospital and Health Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Science degree from Wright State University. Prior to joining Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, McAfee spent ten years in leadership positions at the Cleveland Clinic Health System.
