Who's Who in Health Care: Steve Scogna, President, CEO Northwest Community Healthcare

At first blush you might miss the connection between the smash Broadway musical, “Hamilton,” and Northwest Community Healthcare. But Steve Scogna, NCH President and CEO, is quick to point out the similar themes of passion, vision and, of course, independence.

The passion of NCH's employees and physicians and the vision of its board of directors are what drew Scogna to NCH in 2011, when he arrived as executive vice president and chief financial officer. In 2013, Scogna was appointed president and CEO. Today, NCH remains one of the few local independent health care systems, whose business strategy focuses on innovative partnerships that strengthen services that address community needs. A health care executive for 27 years, Scogna has served as a chief executive officer, chief operating officer and chief financial officer in both system and hospital settings. Prior to NCH, he was CEO of Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and senior vice president and chief financial officer for Frankford Health Care System, a member of the Jefferson Health System, Philadelphia. Scogna has been described by many as a humble leader with a collaborative spirit that sets him apart.

Philly born and bred, Scogna graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Villanova University, and is a certified public accountant. He moved to the Chicago area 13 years ago with his wife, Carol, and son, Stephen.

Scogna believes one must lead by example, focus on integrity and transparency, and communicate, communicate, communicate. Whether rounding with staff on hospital units, conferring with the NCH executive leadership team or addressing business leaders at local chamber events, he considers himself fortunate to be a part of the NCH family. He is proud of the committed and compassionate staff, the robust network of more than 1,100 physicians and NCH's ability to make strategic and timely decisions on behalf of the community.
