CEO, AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village

John Werrbach is president and chief executive officer of AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove, a 387-bed acute care hospital located in Elk Grove Village, which has been providing comprehensive, quality health care to the northwest suburbs of Chicago for 50 years.

AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center has more than 900 physicians on staff, representing more than 80 medical and surgical specialties. Each year Alexian Brothers Medical Center treats more than 18,000 inpatients and performs thousands of inpatient and outpatient surgeries.

Werrbach has been the medical center's CEO since March 2007. Prior to that, he was COO and executive vice president of hospital operations for Alexian Brothers Medical Center, and previously served as corporate vice president of operations with the Alexian Brothers Health System, where he was responsible for developing and implementing systemwide operational and growth strategies.

Werrbach is an accomplished health care executive with expertise in operations turnaround, strategic planning, program development, clinical service integration, and physician recruitment and retention. He began his health care career at Alexian Brothers Medical Center as Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in the late 1970s, and later served as COO and chief administrative officer at Lincoln Park Hospital (formerly Grant Hospital), Chicago.

Werrbach has also held administrative director and vice president positions with Merit Health Systems LLC, and St. James Hospitals & Health Centers, Chicago Heights.

He earned his Bachelor's degree from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, and his MBA from Northern Illinois University School of Business, DeKalb.
