Arlington Heights to discuss zoning change for martial arts studio
On Tuesday, the Arlington Heights village board will consider a zoning change for a taekwondo and krav maga training facility that recently moved into a long vacant office space along Central Road.
YMA Taekwondo & Krav Maga LLC, owned by Eniko Szabo, is proposed for 110 E. Central Road in a 2,700-square-foot space.
YMA is already operating in the space - the school recently moved from its smaller location along Arlington Heights Road - but the owner was not aware of the need for a special-use variation since the land is zoned for offices rather than commercial uses.
Szabo is listed as the company's only employee and he expects to have about 60 or 70 students with class sizes under 15 students, according to village documents. The studio is open from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
Village paperwork shows that the property has been mostly vacant since the 1990s.
The board also will recognize Escorted Transportation Service Northwest with a proclamation in celebration of the organization's 10 years of providing rides and outreach to local seniors. Since its founding in September 2006, the service has provided 24,000 round-trip rides to seniors in the community.
The village board will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday at village hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road.
