Cougars get the win in final road game

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars (29-38, 62-75) finished with a 32-28 record on the road in 2016 as the took the rubber game from the Quad Cities River Bandits (29-38, 60-76) with a 2-1 score Friday evening.

Davenport was the most successful site for the Cougars this season as they finished with an 8-2 record in the Quad Cities.

The Cougars' pitching staff solidified the victory as Sam McWilliams, Hector Hernandez and Keegan Long allowed just 3 hits and 1 run throughout the contest.

The Cougars put up 2 runs in the second inning when with a sacrifice fly from Stephen Dezzi to bring home Ramon Hernandez. Jeff Smith followed up with an RBI-double to plate Frank Christy putting the Cougars ahead 2-0.

Quad Cities cut the lead in half with an RBI-groundout in the bottom of the frame, but wouldn't see the scoreboard again.

McWilliams (3-6) earned the win in his last appearance with the Cougars in 2016. The right-hander finished with 5 innings of 3-hit, 1-run baseball. Hector Hernandez picked up his second hold with 2⅓ frames, striking out 4 batters and stranding the tying run at third base in the seventh inning. Keegan Long finished off the game with a 5-out save, his seventh of the season.

Despite a quality outing, Enrique Chavez (0-2) suffered the loss after going 6 innings.
