Thumb injury knocks Inbee Park from LPGA's final major
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Olympic gold medalist Inbee Park has withdrawn from the LPGA Tour's final major of the year because her thumb needs more rehabilitation.
She says her left thumb was put in a cast last week and her recovery time will force her to miss the Evian Championship in France on Sept. 15-18.
The South Korean missed two months on the LPGA because of the injury. She put everything into the Olympics, and won the gold medal with a five-shot victory over top-ranked Lydia Ko.
Park has won at Evian, but not when it was a major. Park lacks that title to join Karrie Webb as the only players to have won five of the LPGA majors.
The withdrawal means the South Korean will have missed the final three majors.
