Former Elgin man pleads guilty to abusing girl decades ago

A former Elgin man pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a young girl more than 20 years ago.

Everardo Palomo, 53, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse and was sentenced to 24 months of probation and ordered to pay $1,389 in fines, according to court records. He also must register as a sex offender.

Prosecutors say Palomo abused the girl beginning when she was 10 years old and continuing until she was 17. The now 34-year-old woman and her brother confronted Palomo about the abuse late last year.

Illinois law allows for the prosecution of sexual abuse cases involving minors so long as charges are brought within 20 years of the accuser's 18th birthday.
