Founder of abuse-slinging hot dog stand dies
Barry Nemerow, who helped found a hot dog stand that offers Chicago's delicious "garden on a bun" with sustained verbal abuse on the side, has died.
Mr. Nemerow, 60, who died Wednesday, was former co-owner of Wieners Circle, 2622 N. Clark St., where employees were preparing to post a sign Thursday celebrating his life, said co-manager Yolanda Smiley. The stand is known for the insults employees dole out to patrons.
His kindness led many employees to stay at Wieners Circle for 25 years or more, said another manager, Evelyn Morris.
She wept as she recounted how Mr. Nemerow paid for the 1993 funeral of her 10-year-old daughter, Clineshia Morris, after a struggle with kidney disease.
