Antioch handles Kenosha Tremper

Brandon Lind can move fast and powerfully on snow.

In Antioch's football season opener Friday night, the senior running back showed that he can be just as impressive on turf.

Lind scored 6 touchdowns, as the Sequoits pounded visiting Kenosha Tremper 59-33. He rushed the ball a dozen times, picking up 83 yards, as he was used mainly in the red zone.

"When we go to a full-house backfield package for short yardage inside the 5- or 10-yard line, he's the tailback of that," Antioch coach Brian Glashagel said. "He's 190 pounds, runs a 4.5, and he's a downhill guy."

A competitive snowmobile racer, Lind missed his entire junior season of football after tearing his ACL and meniscus. The knee injury happened in snowmobiling, not football.

"He would have been one of the area's best players last year," Glashagel said. "If he wasn't going to be our starting quarterback, he would have been the wing opposite of Grif (Hill, three-year varsity star).

"Which would have totally changed the dynamic of our team."

Besides Lind, several other Sequoits played fast and strong against Tremper. Junior running back Hunter Price rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Senior Mike Kawell also scored a TD, while junior quarterback Branden Gallimore completed a 70-yard pass to Lind. It was Gallimore's only completion in 4 attempts.

"He called a great game," Glashagel, whose team rushed for more than 300 yards, said of Gallimore.

Antioch did not punt and scored on every possession except one, which ended when Tremper returned an interception for a touchdown right before halftime.

Defensively, Antioch got 2 interceptions from junior Andrew Hare and one from senior Bill Becker.

The Sequoits visit Moline on Friday night.
