England appoints Leicester assistant as Allardyce's No. 2
LONDON (AP) - England has appointed the assistant manager of English champion Leicester as the No. 2 to new national coach Sam Allardyce.
The English Football Association says Craig Shakespeare will retain his role at Leicester, which won the Premier League unexpectedly last season after starting out as relegation candidates.
Allardyce says "players respect him (Shakespeare), and his achievement this past season means we will be getting someone who has a strong winning mentality."
Allardyce is putting together his backroom staff after being hired by England following the country's disappointing European Championship campaign in June.
Shakespeare says "this caps off a brilliant year."
