Lincolnshire's new police chief to be sworn in Monday

Lincolnshire's next police chief is set to be sworn in Monday.

Joe Leonas, who most recently has served as Bartlett's deputy police chief of support services, has been tapped for the Lincolnshire job.

"I look forward to serving the Lincolnshire community," Leonas said in a news release.

He will replace Chief Peter Kinsey, who retired in June after five years as the town's top cop.

Leonas' new salary was not immediately available.

He has been a police officer for more than 26 years, all in Bartlett. He's been Bartlett's deputy chief since 2011.

Leonas also has served as an instructor with Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety and as an adjunct faculty member with the College of DuPage and Aurora University, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He was selected for the Lincolnshire post from a pool of 60 applicants from 11 states and Washington D, C., according to a news release.

In Bartlett, Leonas supervised and coordinated police department activities, served as the village's representative on the fire and police commission and oversaw all internal affairs investigations.

"He has been active in all aspects of the community and (is) very innovative," Mayor Elizabeth Brandt said. "Joe is a great fit for the village of Lincolnshire, and the entire organization looks forward to his joining the Lincolnshire team."

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to occur during Monday's village board meeting. That'll be at 7 p.m. at village hall, 1 Olde Half Day Road.
