Former Illinois village president cleared of charges
SYCAMORE, Ill. (AP) - A judge has acquitted the former president of a small village in northern Illinois of misconduct and theft charges.
According to The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle (http://bit.ly/2bBbQNc ), Judge Philip Montgomery found former Kingston Village President John Munro not guilty late Wednesday.
Munro called facing the charges "awful for our family."
Munro was charged with unlawful possession of a credit card, theft and official misconduct in October 2014 while serving as president of Kingston. The town is about 25 miles southeast of Rockford.
He was accused of using a village credit card to buy about $4,000 worth of gasoline for personal use. If convicted he faced up to five years in prison.
Munro served as village president in 1,100-resident Kingston for 12 years before resigning in December 2014.
