US hosts New Zealand in exhibition on Oct 11 at RFK Stadium
CHICAGO (AP) - The U.S. will play New Zealand in an exhibition soccer game on Oct. 11 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
The match, announced Wednesday, will be four days after the Americans play Cuba in an exhibition at Havana.
The U.S., attempting to qualify for its eighth straight World Cup, plays qualifiers at St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Sept. 2 and against Trinidad and Tobago four days later in Jacksonville, Florida, completing the semifinal round. The U.S. (2-1-1) has seven points in Group C of the semifinal round, three behind Trinidad (3-0-1) and one ahead of Guatemala (1-1).
The top two teams in each of three groups advance to the final round of qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean. If the U.S. advances, it would open at home on Nov. 11.
