Fort Wayne authorities to enforce Indiana curfew law

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Police in Fort Wayne and Allen County say they'll enforce a state curfew law to keep Allen County youths safe and out of trouble.
Fort Wayne Police Chief Steve Reed said Wednesday his officers will begin to "actively enforce" the juvenile curfew law in an attempt to reduce crime. He says his officers this year have conducted more than 400 juvenile investigations in the overnight hours, and arrested 500 young people.
Indiana law prohibits youths ages 15 to 17 from being in public places between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. on weekends and after 11 p.m. or before 5 a.m. on weekdays. Children under age 15 cannot be in a public place between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. any day.
Offenders will be taken home or to juvenile detention.
