Three amateurs qualified for the women's event - Leona Maguire of Ireland, Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland and Tiffany Chan of Hong Kong. ... Maguire's twin sister, Lisa, is caddying for her this week. Both play college golf at Duke. ... Nine of the top 10 in the women's world ranking are in the field. The exception is Ha Na Jang, but only because South Korea had already filled its allotment of four players.

Seven players who competed at the Olympics in Rio are in the field, led by Rickie Fowler, who is No. 30 in the FedEx Cup and No. 12 in the Ryder Cup standings. The top eight qualify for the Ryder Cup after the following week at The Barclays. ... From No. 119 to No. 150 in the FedEx Cup, the only players not at the Wyndham Championship are Will Wilcox (No. 136), Padraig Harrington (No. 137) and Jamie Donaldson (No. 147). Harrington is exempt next year from his 2015 victory in the Honda Classic. ... Camilo Villegas is No. 150. He won the Wyndham Championship two years ago. ... Love is not playing as he recovers from hip surgery.

The field is the strongest in its three-year history, featuring Lee Westwood, Andy Sullivan and Matthew Fitzpatrick. ... Qualifying for the Ryder Cup ends in two weeks for Europe. Fitzpatrick currently holds the ninth and final automatic spot, though Russell Knox (6.6 ranking points behind) is not playing on the PGA Tour this week and has no more qualifying events left on his schedule. ... John Daly is playing the European Tour for the first time since the Qatar Masters in late January. ... Pieters, Jaco Van Zyl and Nino Bertasio are the only players in the field who were in Rio for the Olympics. Van Zyl skipped the final two majors to prepare for the Olympics and last played a European Tour event in early July at the French Open.
