14-foot-tall sculpture being presented to Indiana city

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - A 14-foot-tall, flaming red sculpture is set to be formally presented to a southern Indiana city after local arts supporters raised $40,000 to buy the artwork.

The ceremony marking the "Flamenco" sculpture handover will be held Wednesday at the downtown Columbus site where it has been displayed since 2014.

The (Columbus) Republic reports (http://bit.ly/2btyAif ) city officials are discussing possibly putting the sculpture on a higher base and lighting it up at night. Artist Ruth Aizuss Migdal of Chicago says she is fine with those suggestions for the abstract artwork that's made of stainless steel.

Supporters met their fundraising goal in May to make the sculpture part of the permanent art collection for the city renowned for its architecture and several buildings that are designated National Historic Landmarks.
