Naper Nights brings final concerts of season
The Naper Nights Concert Series draws to a close this weekend with two nights of throwback performances.
Concerts are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19 and 20, at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for ages 4 to 12. Admission is free for younger children and Naper Settlement members. For information and tickets, visit napernights.org.
The weekend opens with '80s night on Friday. Concertgoers are encouraged to come dressed in their best '80s outfit and take pictures at the Alfresco Photo Booth to enter into the Totally Rad Costume Contest.
Chicago-area band Fletcher Rockwell will start off the night with original songs and covers spanning from Tom Petty to The Lumineers. Fletcher Rockwell blends rock and country into a unique American sound.
Headlining on Friday will be Chicago-based 1980s tribute band 16 Candles, bringing the decade's megahits to life. From Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" to Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night," 16 Candles aims to get the crowd dancing and singing along.
Saturday will be rock 'n' roll night. The evening will open with The Who tribute band, Who's Who. The band re-creates the sound, energy and excitement of The Who, and members pride themselves on entertaining music lovers of all ages.
Following Who's Who will be Led Zeppelin tribute band Kashmir. Kashmir creates a '70s Led Zeppelin show using vintage stage gear, costumes and special effects.
"I anticipate Kashmir to be the musical highlight of the weekend," special events coordinator Adison Glick said. "The group impeccably delivers the sound and vibe of Led Zeppelin. If you squint your eyes and open your ears you might think Robert Plant is here singing directly to you."
Kashmir performs from Led Zeppelin's entire catalog.
"We are looking forward to reliving a large piece of music history on Saturday," said Kashmir guitarist Frank Livingston.
Along with the music, there will also be food and drink vendors as well as children's activities.
Food vendors include Sharko's BBQ, Joey's Red Hots, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Little Jimmy's Italian Ice. Attendees older than 21 can buy drinks from Rodney Strong Vineyards and Bell's Brewery. No outside food or beverages are allowed.
Children's activities include painting with Pinot's Palette and board breaking with PRO Martial Arts on Friday and Saturday; STEM-based experiments with SciTech Hands On Museum and crafts with Bright Horizons on Friday; learning through play with a portable exhibit from DuPage Children's Museum and playing with the School of Rock instrument petting zoo on Saturday.
