Aurora aldermen host back-to-school events

AURORA, Ill. - Aldermen are sending students back to school ready to learn by hosting annual events that offer free school supplies, food and fun for the entire family. The City of Aurora is supporting the aldermen by providing additional grade-level school supplies to help make sure all students are prepared to succeed.

On Friday, Aug. 12, Alderman-at-Large Richard Irvin and AAMOU hosted the eighth annual Back-to-School Fair in partnership with 6th Ward Alderman Mike Saville and the Fox Valley United Way. The event included food, haircuts, games and free supplies.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, 2nd Ward Alderman Juany Garza and the Ward 2 Committee hosted the 11th annual ice cream social. The event included school supplies, live music, performances from La Bomboncita the Clown and Those Funny Little People, face-painting by Pancakes the Clown, and free food and ice cream.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, 7th Ward Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns and Main Baptist Church will host the 29th annual Back-to-School Bash from 1 to 6 p.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Farnsworth Avenue and Grand Boulevard. Special guest appearances will be made by NBA World Champion Eddie Curry and his wife, reality TV star and author Patrice Curry with special performances by Opal Staples, Barbetta Neil, Darius Brooks and the world-famous Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago.
