RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Sonja Petrovic scored 20 points, and Serbia wrapped up group play in women's basketball with a 95-88 win over Senegal on Sunday.
Serbia (2-3) already had clinched the final berth in Group B before tipping off, and the Serbs will play Australia, the top team in Group A, in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
Senegal (0-5) finishes its second Olympic appearance in women's basketball still seeking its first win despite a solid game against Serbia in which they shot 55 percent from the field and drilled 9 of 17 3-pointers. But Serbia took control early and led by as much as 19 before taking a 55-43 lead into halftime.
Fans gave Senegal plenty of support chanting and clapping. Senegal got within six in the third quarter but could get no closer.
Astou Traore led Senegal with 30 points. After the game, Senegal players went to the stands to hug their fans.
