Ancient games, modern times: Anyone for a truce?
The games go back to ancient Greece,
Where city-states would keep the peace:
No fighting in this interlude
While men would wrestle in the nude.
We might no longer honor Zeus
But, yes, there's an Olympic Truce
Decrying violence, war and death.
Good luck with that; don't hold your breath.
In Rio now, where tourists stroll,
The military's on patrol.
Thefts and muggings, a way of life
(Some at gunpoint and some by knife).
And then toss this upon the plate:
Hints of terror, Islamic State.
But yet the mayor makes it clear
There is no safer place than here -
A claim Greeks might not understand
For peace, it seems, is not at hand.
