Cyclists pedal through Barrington area to support wounded vets

Cowbells clanged and spectators cheered Sunday morning as tired cyclists crossed the finish line of the 6th annual Barrington Honor Ride and Run.

An estimated 300 runners and cyclists participated in the event, which serves as a fundraiser for Ride2Recovery, a national organization that uses cycling to help wounded veterans rehabilitate.

"Our honor rides are a great way for community members to ride alongside healing heroes, get to chat with them and understand how riding helps them," said Emily Granacher, event marketing manager for the Honor Ride series.

The Barrington event is the ninth of 15 honor rides taking place across the country this year. Starting and finishing at Citizens Park, it featured rides of 20, 30 and 50 miles through the Barrington area, and runs of 5K and 10K runs, along with a 1-mile fun run. The festivities wrapped up with an after party for participants and supporters.
