Muvico gets OK from Rosemont to sell alcohol

Soon you'll be able to sip on suds and other libations while watching movies on the big screen at Muvico theaters in Rosemont.

Along with popcorn, candy, and soft drinks, concession stands at the popular movie showplace at MB Financial Park will begin to offer beer, wine and mixed drinks - part of a growing trend at movie megaplexes.

The village board this week approved changes to its village code that will allow Muvico to pour alcohol next to soda.

But in order to safeguard against underage drinking, the theater plans to use different color cups for booze, limit moviegoers to one drink per person, and require those drinking to wear a wristband. Staff also will walk through theaters periodically to make sure underagers haven't gotten their hands on any alcohol, village officials said.

Muvico is already home to Bogart's, a full-service bar and restaurant on the theater's second floor, but patrons haven't been able to bring alcohol downstairs.
