Plane evacuated on Indianapolis airport runway, no injuries

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Officials say a plane was evacuated on the runway at Indianapolis International Airport after the pilot hit the brakes too hard, causing them to heat up.

Authorities say there were 32 people aboard the American Eagle flight traveling from Philadelphia to Indianapolis. No one was injured and they were taken to the terminal on a bus after the Tuesday incident.

Mike Medvescek is the airport's senior director of operations. He tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/2aRNXlC ) that the brakes started smoking badly.

Emergency crews responded to the runway at about 6 p.m. and were able to prevent a fire. Fire trucks hosed down the plane to cool the brakes.
