The John Deere, typically held a week before the British Open, agreed to move opposite the Olympics this year. It is the penultimate tournament for players to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. ... NCAA champion Aaron Wise will be making his PGA Tour debut as a pro. ... Spieth is among five players who did not or will not defend a title this year. Sangmoon Bae (Frys.com Open) started his military service in South Korea; Scott Piercy (Barbasol Championship) qualified for the Bridgestone Invitational; Danny Lee did not get a chance because The Greenbrier was canceled due to flooding; and Davis Love III (Wyndham Championship) is recovering from hip surgery. ...
