Golf course in Lake Forest holds open house
Deerpath Golf Course in Lake Forest will celebrate 90 years with a family open house from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. Light picnic food and beverages will be served, with formal remarks at 4:30 p.m. The "Give Golf a Try," program to introduce nongolfers of all ages to the sport also will be offered. Visitors should park at the Recreation Center, 400 Hastings Road, and take the free shuttle to the course. In 1926, the A.B. Dick family donated 70 acres to the city of Lake Forest for a nine-hole municipal golf course, designed by Alex Pirie of Old Elm Golf Course. Other residents made additional gifts of land, and the remaining nine holes were finished in 1927. Call Sally Swarthout, director of parks and recreation at (847) 810-3942.
