Judge orders 2 men held on $2M bail in fatal Salem shooting

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Two men charged in a fatal shooting in Salem earlier this week have been ordered held on $2 million bail each after a judge deemed them a flight risk.

The Salem Statesman-Journal reported Thursday (http://stjr.nl/2aTsCtl) that 22-year-old Denzel Hawthorne, of Michigan, and 20-year-old Eloy Carrera, of Illinois, were possibly traveling from North Dakota with drugs when the shooting occurred.

According to court records, the two entered the home of 44-year-old Brett White on Monday with a shotgun and a pistol.

When they ordered White's 20-year-old son give them his marijuana, White charged them and Hawthorne shot him in the head.

Authorities arrested Hawthorne and Carrera on Tuesday at a Woodburn motel.

They have another court date later this month and it wasn't immediately clear if they had attorneys.
