Hoffman Estates Students Receive Jaycee Scholarships

The Hoffman Estates Jaycees presented $500 college scholarships to Hoffman Estates High School graduate Lorraine Gonzales and Fremd High School graduate Madeline Scharm. The recipients were selected on the basis of merit, service and volunteering efforts.

Lorraine Gonzales is planning to major in Kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago and become an Occupational Therapist. She was involved in many extracurricular activities and served as an officer in Best Buddies and the Health Care Club. "It's important to give back and help out the community because helping others can truly impact your life," said Gonzales. "I am looking forward to helping individuals with disabilities."

Madeline Scharm is planning to attend University of Indiana in Bloomington and pursue a Bachelor'a degree in Business and Finance. She participated in several extracurricular activities including student council, soccer and the French and Foreign Exchange club. In addition, she has served as a freshmen mentor, volunteered in the community and her church and held a part time job. "My community offers me more support and guidance with each passing day," said Scharm. "I am humbled and thankful to know that my community supports me."

The Hoffman Estates Jaycees is a civic organization that provides individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to network and develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community. The Hoffman Estates Jaycees meets at 7 p.m., on the third Wednesday of each month at the Hoffman Estates Village Hall Training Room located at 1900 Hassell Road.
