Man charged in 7-hour standoff in Elgin released on bond
An Elgin man charged in a 7-hour standoff with police has been released from jail after posting a $600 bond yesterday, officials said. Mace D. Davis, 57, of the 200 block of National Street, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. He faces a charge of aggravated assault of a victim older than 60 years, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct, police said. Full story.
Anti-slavery leaders speak in Naperville
Leaders of a global anti-slavery movement visited the Islamic Center of Naperville yesterday to discuss how Muslim communities in the U.S. and throughout the world are working together to combat slavery in the West African nation of Mauritania. "Muslims all over the world are tackling this issue," said Sean Tenner, a co-founder of the Chicago-based Abolition Institute. Fatal crash near Bensenville under investigation
The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident that occurred Sunday in an unincorporated area near Bensenville. The office said identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Full story.
U-46 classroom additions will be ready for school start
New classroom additions at Coleman, Highland and Laurel Hill elementary schools will alleviate overcrowding and accommodate nearly 250 more students in Elgin Area School District U-46 this school year, officials said.
