Smart Farm Dinner Fundraiser September 17

Smart Farm of Barrington will host its third Farm to Table dinner Saturday, September 17, at the Advocate Good Shepherd Barn, 450 W. Hwy. 22, Barrington. Drinks and a tour of the Smart Farm will start at 5:30 p.m., with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m.

This event will be a fundraiser to support Smart Farm as well as an opportunity to enjoy an evening connecting farm, food, and community.

The dinner, featuring locally grown foods, will be prepared by Chef Zak Dolezal of Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen, Chef Meghan McGinty of Farmhouse on North, Chef Jamie Wagener from Blissful Kitchen, Jessica Grelle owner of Mamma Jess Organic Pasta Sauces, and Chef Kate Formichella. Jennifer Kainz of Mindful Waste, a Barrington nonprofit organization whose mission is the elimination of food waste, will ensure the evening is a zero waste event.

By the end of the 2016 growing season, Smart Farm will have raised and donated over 7,000 pounds of fresh produce to area food pantries. Smart Farm has newly planted apple and pear trees and also raises strawberries and raspberries. It's the Bees Knees, Smart Farm's honey, will be available at the event.

Smart Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that also serves as an educational resource for sustainable gardening practices and promotes health eating an living an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
