Rolling Meadows Cornfest celebrating its 60th year
The Community Church of Rolling Meadows is holding its 60th annual Cornfest from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, in conjunction with a craft fair that opens at 10 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Admission to the grounds is free.
The menu features all-you-can-eat sweet corn, grown locally and picked just hours before it is boiled and smothered in butter. Also included in the ticket price is a hamburger, brat, or hot dog, relishes, grilled onions, watermelon and beverage. Meal tickets may be purchased at the door: $13; seniors $10; children 4 to 10 years $6; 3 and under free. Seating will be "under the tent" for rain or shine enjoyment. Freshly picked sweet corn will also be bagged for sale by the dozen or half-dozen.
The craft fair will feature handmade arts and crafts by area artisans, as well as other vendors. Raffle ticket items include Cubs and White Sox tickets, an overnight stay at a Wisconsin resort and a 50/50 cash drawing.
There is an expanded kids area with a bounce house, bungee jump and rescued exotic wildlife animals. There will be a face painter and balloon artist, and Brainfreeze Ice Cream. Police and fire vehicles will be on display. Live music will be provided throughout the day.
