Names released in northern Indiana police-action shooting

NORTH WEBSTER, Ind. (AP) - State police have released the names of a northern Indiana sheriff's deputy and the man he shot following an apparent road rage dispute.

They said Kosciusko (kaws-ee-AWS'-koh) County Deputy Sheriff Don McCune shot and wounded 24-year-old Alexander D. Jackson of Milford on Thursday after Jackson crashed his pickup into a building in North Webster, about 40 miles southeast of South Bend.

State police Sgt. Trent Smith says the circumstances surrounding the shooting and damage to McCune's cruiser remain under investigation.

Smith says Jackson was hospitalized with a gunshot wound, but it's not clear where. His medical condition Friday was not released.

Smith says McCune was treated at a hospital and released.

Smith says Jackson allegedly shot at another vehicle before McCune began his pursuit. No one else was injured.
