Woman struck and killed by vehicle in Gurnee

A Waukegan woman was killed in Gurnee Friday morning after a vehicle involved in an accident left the roadway and hit her on a sidewalk, authorities said.

Theresa Dowe, 58, was walking on the sidewalk on the 4100 block of Grove Avenue at 7:41 a.m. when two vehicles collided at Grove and Delaney roads.

Gurnee Deputy Police Chief Willie Meyer said the crash involved a 2010 Chevrolet SUV and 2000 BMW, and that one of the vehicles was turning left in the roadway when it was hit by the other car, which was heading in the opposite direction.

Meyer said one of the vehicles rebounded from the collision and struck Dowe on the sidewalk.

Lake County Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said Dowe was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead.

Meyer said the crash remains under investigation by Gurnee officers. No citations have been issued, Meyer said, and the identities of the people involved are being withheld.
