Naperville Park District to lead 2016 Labor Day Parade

In a March 15, 2016 press release, the Naperville Jaycees announced that they named the Naperville Park District as the Grand Marshal of the 2016 Gerald Kia Labor Day Parade, presented by the City of Naperville and the Naperville Jaycees.

The Labor Day Parade is celebrating its 50th anniversary as is the Naperville Park District, both originating in 1966. The Naperville Jaycees, founded in 1964, have worked with the Naperville Park District over the years to enhance the quality of life for our community. Events such as Last Fling and the annual Easter Egg Hunt are examples of this positive partnership. The Jaycees have contributed toward favorite Park District amenities including the Paddleboat Quarry (Jaycee Marina) and the Jaycee Playground on the Riverwalk.

"The Park District is honored to be chosen as Grand Marshal for the Labor Day Parade, in celebration of our 50-year milestone and partnership with the Jaycees," said Executive Director Ray McGury.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the Park District is inviting all past park commissioners and executive directors to join the current board and staff to march in the parade. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 5 at Naperville North High School. All past commissioners and directors who would like to participate are asked to contact Jacki Stern at 630-848-3502 or for further details.

The Park District will be celebrating its 50th anniversary all year long, with special focus on the upcoming grand opening event on Saturday, August 27 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Fort Hill Activity Center. This free event is open to the public and will include fun activities for all ages, building tours, a 50th anniversary tribute video and much more.
