Hoffman Estates K9 to get protective vest

The Hoffman Estates Police Department's police dog, Dozer, will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Dozer's vest, expected within eight to 10 weeks, is sponsored by Barney's Friends of Hoffman Estates and will be embroidered with its benefactor's name.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a charity located in East Taunton, Massachusetts, whose mission is to provide vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs throughout the nation.

Each vest has a value ranging from $1,795 to $2,234 and a five-year warranty.
