British Open glance
TROON, Scotland (AP) - A look at the second round Friday in the British Open at Royal Troon Golf Club (all times EDT):
LEADING: Phil Mickelson made his first two bogeys of the tournament but still shot a 2-under 69. He reached the midway point at 10-under 132.
TRAILING: Henrik Stenson was one shot back after posting a 65, the best round of the day.
LUCK OF THE DRAW: The morning starters caught a break with the weather, which turned especially nasty in the afternoon. The top 14 players on the leaderboard all came from the morning wave. Of the 20 players who broke par, only four started after lunchtime.
MISSING THE CUT: Former Open champions Ernie Els and Louis Oosthuizen were among those missing the cut. Els could have made it to the weekend with a par at the final hole, but the Big Easy took bogey after driving it into a fairway bunker. Oosthuizen, who lost in a three-way playoff last year at St. Andrews and was No. 14 in the world, shot 83. He was the highest-ranked player to be sent home.
GETTING THROUGH: Mickelson and Rickie Fowler both made the cut in a major for the first time this year.
SHOT OF THE DAY: Mickelson nearly holed out his tee shot at the 123-yard eighth hole, known as the "Postage Stamp." The ball rolled right up next to the cup, leaving Lefty with a tap-in birdie that was roughly the length of a postage stamp.
KEY STATISTIC: Of the eight players who have shot 63 in the opening round of a major championship, Mickelson was only the third to break par in the second round.
NOTEWORTHY: Billy Horschel followed up a 67 on Thursday with an 85, the highest score of the second round. The 18-shot differential was the biggest meltdown in Open history over the first two rounds.
QUOTEWORTHY: "You've got to understand that some people get lucky, some people get unlucky. You've got to take what you get and roll with it and try to do the best job you can." - Jason Day, on the much tougher conditions that faced those teeing off in the afternoon.
SATURDAY FORECAST: Mostly dry with wind gusts up to 20 mph.
